Creating the perfect wedding reception involves countless decisions. If you're planning a backyard wedding, one of the biggest choices you'll make is selecting the type of tent for your celebration.
Clear tents have become increasingly popular in recent years, and it's easy to see why. Before making your decision, here are a few pros and cons to consider.
Pros of A Clear Tent Reception
They are STUNNING
There's no denying it — clear tents are visually stunning. They allow you to feel connected to the landscape around you while still being protected from the elements. Whether you're overlooking a vineyard, a lake, or your family property, a clear tent allows the beauty of the surroundings to become part of the décor.
They also showcase all of the hard work that goes into designing your reception, both from inside and outside the tent.
A View of the stars
Clear tents become especially beautiful after sunset. There is something magical about sharing your first dance while looking up at the stars overhead. As daylight fades and the evening settles in, guests can continue enjoying the views outside while remaining comfortable inside the tent.
Beautiful Nightime Photos
The beauty of a clear tent doesn't end when the sun goes down. The combination of string lights, candles, and the evening sky creates incredible photo opportunities. Whether it's guests dancing under the lights or quiet moments shared between family and friends, clear tents help create memorable images you'll cherish for years to come.
CONS of A Clear Tent Reception
They can get hot !
Unfortunately, especially in Southwestern Ontario, clear tents can heat up very quickly on sunny days. Even when the outdoor temperature feels comfortable, the tent can become significantly warmer due to the greenhouse effect created by the transparent roof and walls. On a beautiful day, where the weather in 18C (65F), inside the tent (especially if there is no breeze, can feel like 29C (85F). Yikes!
Heat affect on your decor
The heat doesn't just impact your guests — it can also affect your décor.
We've seen flowers wilt more quickly than expected and candles soften or melt before they've even been lit. While clear tents offer incredible beauty, it's important to work with your florist and other vendors to ensure your décor choices can handle the conditions.
Weather can affect the clarity
While tents are delivered clean and transparent, Mother Nature doesn't always cooperate.
Rain, wind, dust, or pollen in the days leading up to your wedding can affect the appearance of the tent. Although this is often minor, it can impact the crystal-clear look many couples envision when choosing this style of tent.
Final Thoughts
Clear tents offer a unique and beautiful wedding experience, but like any wedding decision, they come with both advantages and challenges.
The key is understanding those pros and cons early so you can plan accordingly and create the experience you're envisioning for your guests.
